It was a busy day- this one little shoe took way too much of my time. Now I have it figured out, though, and its mate is coming along much more quickly.

The fabric is the skirt of a dress I’ve sewn for Gwen- the top of it (you see in the background) is knitted from the same soft blue cotton yarn the shoe is made from.

They should fit baby girl sometime this spring or summer- hopefully at the same time.

I used this pattern, with a few changes (I don’t really remember them well- but, I know I did one less round of height and didn’t increase as much on the brim). The brim is just enough to keep the sun out of her eyes, and the flower comes off easily.

It’s hard to believe that Gwen will be here in a matter of days! We’ve been very busy working on her nursery and getting things ready for her. Here’s a few fun little details- not sure we’ll have pics of the nursery until she’s in it, but, we’re getting really close to the finish line!

I made a little “clothes line” for easy display of snapshots, art, cards, stuff like that. It was fun- and super easy.

I painted four of these guys, attached ribbon to their backs and hung them on the wall. Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE 3M Command Picture removable hanging strips? Use ‘em. Doesn’t get any easier!

I picked up some mini-clothespins at the craft store and Mod-Podged scrap paper to their fronts, to make them a little cuter.

They hold things on the line…

… and work great for other things around the nursery, like keeping little hats attached to their matching outfits.

A few of the bunches of knitting and crochet things I’ve finished in the last couple weeks- a little blue crocheted pinafore:

And a tiny little pixie hat from Baby Beanies: Happy Hats to Knit for Little Heads
:

Finally, Gwen’s adorable big brother. He helped me make chocolate cupcakes- and of course, he helped me eat them, too!

This is for Gwen, of course, and her brother thought it was kind of cool, too. But, the next one I make will have to be for my NEPHEW! Miss Sophie is getting a baby brother this December- yay! Gabe won’t be the ONLY boy at the family functions- and I get to see his cute baby clothes in use again!

… and I have a problem. I’m addicted to baby hats.

Gabe was born in July. In Florida. With plenty of hair. He did not need hats. But, what can I say- I have a weakness. It’s the whole reason I learned to crochet, and knit- I needed a less expensive (::snort:: I didn’t know at the time that yarn is an addiction, too) way to fulfill my need.

Poor Gwen. Maybe it will be a chilly winter this year. I got around to finishing a few more hats for her this afternoon, and I managed to get pictures the same day! That’s rare!

This is just a simple cap with a knot on top, and a crocheted lazy daisy, in a very soft cotton yarn. If she has a head like her brother’s, she’ll be able to wear this one soon after she’s born. It seems so tiny! If I get around to it, I’ll make a little sweater to match.

This hat is crazy, but, really cute in person. The little curly crochet trim on the points stick out like pigtails- it’s silly, but, fun. It started out as Rainbow Marley from Itty-Bitty Hats: cute and cuddly caps to knit for babies and toddlers
, but, I lost steam before finishing the decreases for the top, so I ended up just binding it off and throwing the curlies on the sides instead of the top.

And this is Stripey Stocking Cap from the same book. This is done in self striping Soy Wool Silk yarn from Paton’s, a skein I picked up for 99 cents on clearance. This one doesn’t photograph well flat- but, it’s one of the cutest styles ever on babies.
