Day 86

This was an evolution of sorts. I started with the bloomers, and they came together nicely enough. But, I never made the dress that I planned to go with the bloomers, and well, they were so un-ruffled. So, I decided to try ruffling them. So, they are ruffled. And very, very bright. Not as cute as I pictured they’d be, but, cute, nonetheless, and the next pair will be better (I learned a lot on these).

Gwen’s new pettiskirt is coming along. Ruffling chiffon is a blast- it goes so quickly with my ruffler foot, and it’s fun to watch it in action. This is a 90yd roll of the chiffon for the ruffles that go on the bottom of each layer of the skirt. One pettiskirt will take almost the entire roll. For a BABY! That’s almost a football field of ruffles- crazy.

Wow, I have to catch up on posts. At least I’ve been taking the pics, even if they aren’t great. I’m falling in love with my new hobby, sewing, and photography has to shove over on the bench a little to make room.

I threw this tiny little dress together from a dish towel from Target’s Dollar Spot (but, this was in the ritzy $2.50 section- heheh- 2 towels to a pack). I used this tutorial, more or less. I cut the towel in half width-wise to fit Gwen, and used elastic in a fold over case to gather, instead of threading the ribbon through the top. Super ridiculously easy, and she’s really cute in the silly thing (proof in another post).

I finished an adorable skirt for my niece, Sophie today. Unfortunately, it was pretty dark by the time it was done, so not a day for cute pics, but, oh well.

I got the FANTASTIC tutorial here. I may try to whip up a pocket for this one before I gift it- I’m not sure if that would just be downright cocky, though, since I’m riding on my high for finishing a wearable piece, and not screwing up at ALL! Technically, I made this skirt twice. I came very close to finishing the first one. I was trimming a bit of loose strings for the bottom hem and dammitall. I sliced right through the waist. RIGHT THROUGH it. SO close to angry tears. But, this one is actually much better, and now that I have the experience under my belt, I feel confident enough to play with the sizing and make one for MY baby girl, for this spring.

I can sew. It still makes me giddy. I never thought that would be a skill I could call my own.

Oh my. This sure turned out differently than I’d envisioned. It’s the big scary blue monster blanket sister of my daughter’s tiny cute taggie toy from last week. Minky is the fabric of the devil, pure evil to work with, but, oh… sooo…. soft. And blue, in this case. Or BLUE. Hopefully this won’t be the one thing she attaches to and carts around for years.
